What is a Tesla Light Show?
For those who might not be familiar, a Tesla Light Show is a spectacular feature that allows your Tesla's exterior lights to perform a synchronised display to music. Picture this: your car's headlights, taillights, and other exterior lights flashing and the trunk, windows and doors dancing perfectly in time with a song of your choice.
It's not just a feature—it's a performance, transforming your vehicle into a wonderful Light Show that's sure to impress. Some people know there are a few preinstalled Light Shows in every Tesla, but did you know you can literally use any song? This opens up endless possibilities for customisation and creativity!
How to Get Started with Tesla Light Shows
Getting started with custom Tesla Light Shows is easier than you might think. Here’s a quick rundown of how you can find, download, and enjoy these custom shows.
1. Discovering Your Perfect Light Show
One of the best places to start is our curated YouTube playlist. Here, you can preview a ton of Light Shows and pick the ones that strike a chord with you. Each video description includes a download link, making it simple to get the files you need. For more free shows you can also check out https://teslalightshare.io/

2. Preparing Your USB Drive
Once you've downloaded your favourite Light Shows, you'll need to prepare your USB drive. This involves formatting it correctly (exFAT, FAT 32, or MS-DOS FAT) and setting up the necessary folders.
If this sounds a bit technical, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered. Either you check out our video guide below, where we walk you through each step to ensure your USB drive is ready to go or you buy a plug-and-play ready USB drives with your favourite light shows pre-loaded in our store. Use the discount code JOWUA_10 for 10% off everything.
After formatting the USB drive it:
- Must contain a base-level folder called LightShow (case sensitive).
- Must not contain a base-level TeslaCam folder.
- Must not contain any map update or firmware update files.
You are now ready to move the Light Show files you have previously downloaded to LightShow folder. The folder must contain at least two files with the same name (without quotation marks and case sensitive):
- “lightshow.fseq”
- “lightshow.mp3” or “lightshow.wav” (wav is recommended)
Bonus Tip: Multiple Shows on One USB Drive
Since the latest Tesla Holiday Update (version >2023.44.25) Tesla has introduced a game-changing feature: the ability to store multiple Light Shows on a single USB drive. Gone are the days of juggling multiple drives for different shows. Now, you can switch between your favourite light displays with ease, all from one USBdrive or hard drive.
When you want to add multiple shows, you have to give them unique names:
- “Knight Rider.fseq”
- “Knight Rider.mp3”
- “Michael Jackson - Beat It.fseq”
- “Michael Jackson - Beat It.wav”
3. Enjoying the Show
With your USB drive prepared, it’s time to experience the magic. Plug the drive into one of your Tesla’s front USB ports or the glovebox USB port—we recommend the glovebox USB port because some Teslas don't have data-connected USB ports in the center. Open the toybox, and select “Light Show”. From there, you can schedule your show, select it from the dropdown menu, and hit “Confirm”. Then, just step out, close the doors, and let the performance begin!
