China Megafactory Begins Deliveries
Last week, Tesla celebrated the start of Megapack deliveries from its first Megafactory outside the United States. Production at the Shanghai Megafactory began last month, on February 11. Since then, the factory has been accumulating units to form the first batch. According to Tesla, it was shipped to Australia.
Construction of the Shanghai Megafactory began on May 23, 2024, and was completed late last year. The Megafactory will have an annual production capacity of 10,000 Megapacks, equivalent to about 40 GWh of energy storage capacity.
Tesla Prepares to Enter the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Tesla’s expansion continues, this time heading east. According to a post from the official Tesla Europe & Middle East account on X, the company will hold a launch event in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on April 10, 2025, at Bujairi Terrace in Riyadh. Tesla will showcase its entire lineup of vehicles, including Cybercab, and the Optimus robot.
Saudi Arabia continues to diversify its economy away from its reliance on oil. With its Vision 2030 strategy, the kingdom is making a multi-pronged effort to make its market more attractive to EV manufacturers.
Tesla’s expansion into Saudi Arabia won’t be the only one this year. According to a recent company meeting, broadcast live to the public for the first time, CEO Elon Musk said the company plans to enter several new markets this year.
The World Could See Optimus Legion this Year
At Tesla’s Q1 2025 All-Hands meeting, Musk also shared an update on the Optimus robot. He said the first humanoid robot was manufactured at the Fremont Factory and the company aims to produce enough parts to produce 10,000 to 12,000 robots this year. However, Musk’s more realistic forecast points to producing 5,000 Optimus this year and aiming for 50,000 units in 2026.
Tesla Model Y a Topseller in Norway Again
After a slowdown in sales due to a model refresh, Tesla has started delivering Model Y again in Norway. The first updated SUVs have already brought Tesla back into the game. According to the data, Model Y will not only be the best-selling car in the country in March, but it has already become the best-selling car for the year, with 2,032 units. In March, 1,059 units have already been delivered, more than twice as many as its closest rival, Volkswagen ID. Buzz, with 429 units.
Tesla Celebrates UK Delivery Milestone
Tesla has celebrated the delivery of its 250,000th electric car in the UK. The people of the country have a particular affection for the company's cars. Over the past year, Tesla has delivered 50,000 cars in the UK.
Tesla's UK sales rose more than 20% in February. Last month, Tesla Model 3 and Model Y were the second and third most popular cars in the UK respectively. Mini Cooper was the most popular car in the UK in February.
