Tesla is in discussions with Thailand for new Gigafactory
Tesla continues to implement its plan to expand production capacity worldwide. While construction of a factory in Mexico is set to begin soon, the company is not wasting time and is discussing new locations. Supakorn Congsomjit, an official from Thailand's prime minister's office, stressed earlier this week that the government is in talks with Tesla over a location for a Gigafactory. This was already known in December 2023. However, mentioning it again may indicate that negotiations are ongoing. The Thai official's update comes amid a recent announcement by Italy's Minister of Business and Made Adolfo Urso that the country is in talks with Tesla over the construction of a production facility.
Tesla opens Supercharger network in North America for Ford
Late last week, Tesla officially opened up access to its Supercharger network for Ford electric vehicles in the US and Canada. Now, Ford Mustang Mach-E and Lightning F-150 owners with an NACS adapter can plug in and charge at the Texas manufacturer's more than 15,000 branded charging stations throughout the region. Ford was the first manufacturer to sign an agreement with Tesla, so the company was the first to gain access. The NACS adapter will only work with select Tesla V3 and V4 Superchargers, and V2, Urban and Destination Chargers are not available to Ford EV owners.
Tesla will add support for Apple Watch
Many Tesla owners also own Apple products. For now, they can access their car through their phone, thanks to the Tesla App. However, the company does not support control via Apple Watch, although this feature is frequently requested. Recently, Elon Musk agreed to satisfy the consumer request and said that the company will add support for Apple Watch. At the moment, the timing and other details of this remain unknown.
Tesla provides itself with batteries and components for them
According to a Chinese media report, the new M3P CATL batteries will be installed in Tesla models. CATL said it is already working with Chery and Huawei and is developing cooperation with other clients. Rumors that the new batteries could be installed in Tesla cars first appeared in 2022.
The Texas manufacturer is also actively obtaining components to produce its own 4680 cells. According to a Korean media report, Tesla has agreed to purchase battery ingredients from South Korean company EcoPro Materials Co. The company is supposedly looking for suppliers to comply with US regulations. The IRA requires that battery materials purchased from foreign companies, including China, disqualify vehicles from receiving a tax credit of up to $7,500 per vehicle.
Eco-terrorists attack Giga Berlin
On Tuesday, the German Tesla factory was shut down. The extremist Volcano Group attacked a high-voltage power line. As a result, Giga Berlin, as well as several cities and towns in the area, were left without power. This terrorist attack damaged critical infrastructure, jeopardizing the well-being of local residents. Tesla said it will resume production as soon as it becomes possible, but in the meantime, the safety of employees is put above all else.
