Tesla increases production with the development of Giga Berlin. The factory has reached a production capacity of over 300,000 vehicles per year and is awaiting approval to begin further expansion. The company continues its global expansion with the launch of sales in South America; expanding its charging network, and other news today with Jowua.

Giga Berlin reaches production of 6,000 Model Ys per week

The German Tesla factory has reached another impressive milestone. Giga Berlin has reached production of 6,000 vehicles per week. This means that the factory's production capacity is currently more than 300,000 units per year. The factory began operations in the spring of 2022 and reached this production capacity in just under two years. At the moment, Giga Berlin only produces Model Y but may begin production of other models after a planned expansion.

Expansion of Giga Berlin sees government support

At the moment, the question of whether to approve the expansion of the Tesla factory is being decided in Grünheide. As part of the discussed Plan-B #60, it is planned to build a freight station, warehouses, and a kindergarten in Grünheide on a site next to the factory premises. The Brandenburg Ministry of Infrastructure has made it known to the public that the expansion of Giga Berlin is a significant accelerator for the development of local infrastructure. For example, this could affect the new state road 386, the overpass over the Fangschleise level crossing, and the development of the new Fangschleise railway station. According to the department, the cancellation of Plan-B will lead to a significant delay in the implementation of public infrastructure, since separate procedures in the field of construction law will be required. In the event of such a delay, the completion of both projects will not be possible until 2030, rather than 2026.

Giga Berlin resumes production after shutdown due to supply problems

According to a statement by Senior Director, Manufacturing Giga Berlin André Thierig for Tagesspiegel, the Tesla factory will resume production starting next week. It was previously stopped for two weeks, starting on January 29. The reason was supply disruptions due to attacks on commercial ships by Yemen's Houthi rebels in the Red Sea. Because of this, ships now take longer to deliver cargo to Europe via the new route. However, this gap has been reduced and production at Giga Berlin is now expected to return to full capacity.

Tesla car deliveries from Giga Shanghai rise in January

Meanwhile, the manufacturer's Chinese factory continues to increase production and sales. Tesla sold 71,447 Chinese-made vehicles in January, according to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). This is 8.17 percent more than a year earlier, indicating stable growth.

Tesla launches car sales in Chile

Tesla has officially entered the South American market, which is welcome news. In the middle of last week, the company officially opened its first store in the Chilean capital of Santiago. At the same time, sales of Model 3 and Model Y were launched for consumers in the country. According to the order configurator on the Tesla website, the first deliveries to the country will begin in April-May 2024.

Tesla's charging network continues to grow

Tesla continues to push the adoption of electric vehicles with a new deal with Choice Hotels International. As part of it, one of the world's largest hotel franchisors will deploy Tesla Universal Wall Connectors in thousands of its hotels. They will be installed at Radisson, Cambria, Comfort, Country Inn & Suites, Quality Inn, and other Choice-branded hotels in the United States. Tesla has previously entered into similar deals with Hilton and Best Western Hotels.
