As it is now well known, charging an EV and particularly a Tesla doesn’t cost much when you charge at home compared to traditional Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) usage. But what about pricing when you are on the move for holidays or simply traveling far?

Here are our top 6 tips for better cost efficient decision when you charge your Tesla on the move!

1. Choose a Car with Low Consumption

Logical! The most efficient car would allow you to have the best savings. We all know that Tesla is doing really good at making their car efficient.

It is important to note that a Berline have a better consumption over an SUV, as SUVs have significant wind resistance, demanding more energy to produce the same speed. However, if an SUV better suits your needs, Make sure of its actual consumption on the highway before making any purchase.

2. Take Advantage of the Tesla Referral Program

Even though the current referral program stopped on the 30th of April, another one is in preparation. The previous one allowed the referrer and the referred to obtain free charge kilometers at a supercharging station, a really good way to obtain free charging!

3. Select the Cheapest Charging Stations

As many charging options exist, selecting the one with the best pricing cost and options. Many of those works with the peak hours and off-peak hours system, ensuring cheaper electricity cost during off-peak hours. Make sure to find out which are the cheapest on your route and note that the Tesla Supercharging network has really competitive prices.

4. Tesla Has the Best Charging Network

Tesla's Supercharger network is very dense and has many spots to ensure that anyone would be able to recharge their car. Yes, anyone, as Tesla's Supercharger network is also open to other brands. Just plug it in and charge! It is directly integrated into Tesla trip planning, allowing your battery to precondition automatically. One of the most cost-effective networks.

5. Subscribe to Charging Stations

Many charging stations offer subscription plans that provide better cost ratings! Don't miss the best offers out there. There is also a subscription plan for Tesla superchargers for people driving other EVs. We know they’ll sooner or later move toward Tesla’s car.

6. Start the trip at 100%

Regarding the type of your battery you might just recharge it at 80% on the daily, however going on a long trip is the exception to the 80% rule! Make sure that your car is fully charged and ready to get you a few extra miles further to complete your trip with less charging stops.

(Bonus) Charge near Restaurants and Activity areas

Combine the useful with the pleasant by charging your car and getting a lunch or dinner. Make sure to select charging stations that have activities and restaurant around and you won't see the charging time pass.
