FSD Safety Grows as Tesla Invests in Autopilot & Robotics Teams

Tesla Autopilot is 11+ times safer than a human driver

Last week, Tesla released its latest vehicle safety report. The data demonstrates an increase in the safety performance of vehicles that use Autopilot technology. Thus, in Q1 2024, one crash was registered for every 7.63 million miles driven in which drivers were using Autopilot technology. By comparison, the most recent data available from NHTSA and FHWA (from 2022) shows that in the United States, there was an automobile crash approximately every 670,000 miles. This means that Tesla's Autopilot-driven vehicles are more than 11 times safer than other automakers' vehicles driven by human pilots.

The launch of FSD in China is just around the corner

It looks like the launch of FSD in China may happen very soon. Last month, CEO Elon Musk visited the country where he discussed the potential adoption of the technology there. It also became known that entering the market will be possible thanks to the expansion of cooperation with Baidu. Now there are signs that the technology is about to be deployed for testing purposes.

Tesla progress observer @ChrisZheng001/X shared a photo of the car display of one of the company's employees. He reported that some Tesla China employees' cars had the words "Employee FSD Beta Program: Registered." At the same time, Chris mentioned that in fact FSD functions are not yet active on these cars.

Tesla strengthens Autopilot & Robotics team

The company continues to strengthen its key teams developing Autopilot and Robotics. Recent global staff reductions at Tesla have resulted in all job advertisements being removed. After one month, the company is gradually resuming its talent search efforts. There are still not many vacancies, and most of them are hiring for Autopilot & Robotics teams. Currently, Tesla is looking for software engineers to work in various departments of the Autopilot & Robotics team.

Tesla begins construction of Megafactory in China

Tesla has officially begun construction on its long-awaited new Megafactory in Shanghai, China, as announced on its X account. Heavy machinery is already working on the site, preparing it for development. The breaking ground ceremony was joined by executives from Tesla's Chinese division and officials from Shanghai.
