Tesla continues to demonstrate its growth potential by deploying Optimus robots in the factory. The company is resuming hiring, improving sales performance in China, and continuing its Giga Texas expansion with the addition of a tunnel. Welcome to Jowua's weekly roundup of Tesla news.
Optimus robots work in Tesla factory
The development of humanoid robots is an extremely complex industry. Nevertheless, Tesla has achieved success. The company announced Optimus in 2021 and now has working units being tested. According to an update on the company's achievements published ahead of the vote on Elon Musk's compensation package, Tesla has two robots that autonomously move around the company's office and laboratories every day. This development highlights that the auto business is only a small part of the company, and Tesla has enormous growth potential in the future.
Resumption of hiring
After a wave of layoffs aimed at optimizing operations, Tesla is resuming hiring in North America. Previously, a limited number of positions were seen being added, mainly for the AI and Production teams. Now, Tesla has posted hundreds of new job openings. They cover a variety of areas, from sales consultants to specialists.
Sales in China are growing
Tesla's May sales in China were encouraging. Giga Shanghai sold 72,573 vehicles last month, according to data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). 55,215 units out of them were sold in the domestic market. Car sales in China rose 75.73 percent compared to April and 29.89 percent compared to May 2023. This growth may indicate that Tesla's strategy of building factories in key markets is working. As the company ramps up production at Giga Berlin, the European market no longer needs as many cars from Giga Shanghai as before. This means that the Chinese factory can now focus more on domestic supplies.
Giga Texas expands with the addition of an underground tunnel
The cooperation of Elon Musk's companies again brings positive results. Late last week, The Boring Co. announced it had completed drilling a tunnel at Giga Texas. Named Cybertunnel, it runs underneath State Highway 130 and comes out right at the end of the Cybertruck production line. Tesla lead engineer, Wes Morrill, said that the tunnel will connect the end of the Cybertruck production line to the logistics site for shipment and deliveries.
