Tesla Delivery Checklist

Expecting your Tesla delivery soon? Ensure everything is flawless with our essential checklist. We cover all potential issues and critical checks to make sure your new car meets your expectations. Identify any concerns early on and enjoy a smooth delivery process with our comprehensive guide.

It is always better to inspect your Tesla before paying. Do not accept the delivery without inspecting the car no matter what your Tesla Advisor might say.

What To Bring

Things that will come in handy as you are checking your car or simply driving it back home.

  • Driver's License
  • Proof of Insurance
  • USB-A/C Cable (to check car connectivity on the spot)
  • Flashlight (for inspecting small areas)

Pre-Delivery Records

Verify Informations:

    • Check if the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) matches on your Tesla app and the document present in the vehicle.
    • Confirm your full name and address are correct on the paperwork.
    • Ensure the car model (Performance, Plaid…?), color and wheel type match your order.

Exterior Inspection

Paint Quality:

    • Walk around the car and inspect for scratches, chips, and overspray.
    • Pay attention to common problem areas like doors, trunk and frunk.
    • Consider checking underneath the car, and in small hidden areas for small damage or missing paint.

Panel Gaps:

Panel Gaps have been a recurrent issue for years and I saw countless video online talking about those issues. Gladly, Tesla has significantly improved its quality control before delivery over the past few years. Panel gap issues that were recurrent in the past have now become an anomaly.

Inspect key areas for panel gaps which are: front, headlights, taillights, trunk, charging port.

Ensure gaps are even and that there are no misalignments or bumps. You can compare one side with the other to provide a reference as it might be hard to judge wether or not the gap is abnormal.
Uneven gaps or misaligned panels would affect the car’s aerodynamics and overall appearance. You definitely don't want this in your brand new Tesla.

Rims and Tires:

    • Check the rims for damage. Also check the plastic parts in the front and the back for any chips or scratches.
    • Verify that tires are properly inflated and have air caps. Check the tire tread depth to ensure they are new and unworn. Inspect for any punctures or damages that could compromise safety.

 Glass Inspection:

    • Check all windows including windshield, and glass roof, for chips, cracks or gaps. Pay special attention to the edges where cracks or chips can often go unnoticed.
    • Ensure weather seals are intact and well installed. This may look a bit messy, but as long as they don’t come out of their track, it’s fine.
    • Inspect the windshield trim for proper installation and proper seal.

Doors, Trunk, Frunk:

    • Test opening and closing all doors, trunk, and frunk.
    • Listen for any unusual sounds.
    • Pay particular attention to the trunk power lift and auto-close windows when you are closing the doors.

Exterior Lighting:

    • Check all lighting function including:
      • Low-beam
      • High-beam
      • Fog light
      • Turning lights (left and right signals) check front and rear.
    • Ensure all lights, including headlights, are clear and not foggy.

Interior Inspection

This part is the longest, take your time!

Seating:

    • Inspect all leather surfaces for stains or defects.
    • Check all seatbelts for proper clipping and retraction.
    • Test all seats adjustments and verify that the back seats fold correctly Test all seat adjustments for smooth operation, ensuring they move freely without resistance or unusual noises.
    • Pay particular attention to the back seat cushion, verify if it is well attached.

 Interior Trim and Dashboard:

Check for any loose or rattling components, this may cause annoying noises during driving and trust me you don’t want to hear this sound after owning the car for 2 weeks.

    • Examine the dash and driver door panel for proper sealing.
    • Check all windows up and down for smooth operation.
    • Ensure that moving the side mirrors, adjusting the steering wheel, and activating the horn all work correctly.

 Screen and Connectivity:

    • Test the front and rear screens for any issues or dead pixels.
    • Check screen responsiveness on both the front and rear screens
    • Test the navigation system to ensure it loads quickly and accurately.
    • Verify that the software is up to date.
    • Tap the camera button on the screen to test the cameras. Check that all cameras perform well and function correctly
    • While checking the cameras, check that you have the blind spot camera activating on the screen when activating the turning signals.
    • Ensure all steering wheel controls (turn signals, voice commands, gear selection, lights, windshield wipers, etc.) function properly.
    • Test all USB ports and 12V power outlet to ensure that every port provides power.
    • Verify that the wireless charging pads work properly by using your own phone.
    • Test the speakers and adjust the balance and fader settings to ensure that every setting is working properly
    • Test both key cards to ensure they unlock and close the car properly. You can also set your phone as a key card and check that it unlocks the car well too.
    • Use the climate controls to test the AC and heating at maximum speed to check for efficiency and any unusual sounds.
While in the climate control setting, also check the seat heating and cooling (if applicable).

Interior Lighting:

    • Check all interior lights (overhead, door pockets, vanity mirror, footwell, puddle lights).
    • Ensure ambient lighting is functioning (applicable to newer Model) and check for any condensation in light fixtures.

Charging Inspection

Charging Door:

    • Ensure the charging door opens and closes properly both from the charging device and from the screen.
    • Test the charging capacity, if possible, to ensure the Tesla charges correctly. Either on the spot at a delivery center, on the way back home at a supercharger or directly at home.

Final Steps

App Verification:

    • Confirm that the Tesla is marked as delivered in the app.
    • Ensure that all features in the Tesla app, such as remote start, location tracking, and climate control, are functional.
    • Collect the paperwork, including the payment receipt, VIN documents, and any additional documents you might need.

Reporting Problems

In the unfortunate event that you need to report problems, follow the guideline down below :

Inspect Thoroughly:

    • If you find any issues, wait until the end to compile a full list of issues.
    • ou have the right to refuse delivery if you feel it is necessary or if you find issues that are too important to overlook.
    • Ensure that a support ticket is created for any issues that cannot be fixed on the spot.
    • Remember, you have 24 hours or 100 miles to report any concerns.
